Home heating is by far the largest energy consumer in a typical Canadian home. By reducing energy consumption ,the GHG emissions related to the generation of this energy are also reduced.

An easy way to do this is through the use of a programmable thermostat that will allow you to trun doen the temprature at night or when you are not at home.

Programmable thermostats must have at least two different programming periods (for weekday and weekend programming) and at least four possible temperature settings (i.e., wake, day, evening, sleep. The thermostat should also be shipped from the factory with pre-programmed settings.

The U.S. ENERGY STAR web site maintain a list of thermostats that qualify for the ENERGY STAR rating. Many of the products listed are available in Canada. Follow this link :
